Who is the qualification for?
If you want to specialise in teaching swimming to children under the age of 5 years then this is the course for you. Once completed you will be able to plan and deliver your own swimming lessons for parent and baby, parent and toddler and preschool swimmers.
Who is this course awarded by?
This course is awarded by Swim England Qualifications and upon successful completion of the course you will receive a nationally recognised certificate of achievement. Whilst your certificate is issued by SEQ, the course itself is delivered by Three Whistles, we are an official training provider of Swim England Qualifications.
How long does it take to complete the course?
There are 2 different options for this course depending on your prior experience.
If you are going straight from level 1 assistant onto your level 2 baby and toddler course then this will take place over 7 days, usually on weekends or during half term holidays. The guided learning hours for this course are 50 hours. There may be some self study required for this course taking the total time to 60 hours.
We tend to deliver this course using a blended format, starting with 1 day of online learning followed by 6 days in person.
If you are already a qualified level 2 swimming teacher then you can take a shorter upskill version of this qualification using many of the criteria from your level 2 course as proof of understanding. This usually takes place over 4 days. This upskill method has a guided learning time of 21 hours, and with self study the total course time is 30 hours.
We tend to deliver this course using a blended format, starting with 2 days of online learning followed by 2 days in person.

The SEQ Level 2 Teaching Swimming to Babies and Toddlers qualification is a practical qualification for individuals wanting to progress from their SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification, or SEQ Level 2 Teaching Swimming qualification.

This qualification will enable you to effectively plan, prepare, deliver and evaluate Babies and Toddlers swimming lessons independently. It also gives you the skills and confidence to provide quality and fun swimming lessons.

You will learn about:
The role and responsibilities of a Babies and Toddlers Swimming Teacher
The role in promoting aquatics and children’s health and wellbeing
The development of Babies and Toddlers and common health-related conditions
How to plan overviews and swimming lesson plans for a range of age groups
How teach safe, inclusive and effective swimming lessons to a range of age groups
How to meet the needs of participants
How to assess participants at the correct level
How to demonstrate lesson management skills
How to supervise and instruct those supporting participants
How to develop participants Core Aquatic Skills (CAS)
How to demonstrate effective communication skills
How to evaluate your own performance
How to plan for professional development

By the end of this course, you will be able to effectively plan, prepare, deliver and evaluate Babies and Toddlers swimming lessons independently.

Qualification Time
60 hours (50 guided learning hours plus 10 hours self study)

Entry Requirements
You must be 16 years of age or older on the first day of the course
Hold a SEQ level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) certificate or Swim England/ASA equivalent

If you have already achieved our SEQ Level 2 Teaching Swimming 2022 version 4 qualification, you may present your certificate as evidence towards the Assessment Criteria for this qualification. As we have defined aspects of the achievement that do not necessarily require repeating.

This qualification is not graded. You will either pass or fail. You will have 12 months to meet the required standard.
